Posted by Iesha Marie on February 21, 2015 at 11:55 PM

Demetria McKinney is the newest cast member on the new season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and is widely known for her role on “Tyler Perry’s” House of Payne as Janine Payne. RHOA showcases her transition from successful actress to recording artist. In an exclusive interview with Celebrity Examiner Jae Monique, Demetria discussed her singles, music career and her upcoming movies.

Jae Monique: What brought you onto the season of Real Housewives of Atlanta? Were you excited when you were casted?

Demetria: I was excited for the opportunity. I am an actress on television and I also have a passion to do music. I wanted to show who I was, to show myself and my music in the best way. I am excited for what the show is.

On RHOA, Demetria’s closest friends are Cynthia Bailey and Claudia Jordan.

Jae Monique: How did you and the ladies form those friendships?

Demetria: Genuine intentions. Those were the two I felt genuinely gave me a chance to see how I was. Cynthia is who she is; you can’t help but love that. Claudia and I were supposed to be at odds. We are both tom boys, we both have successful backgrounds, we formed a friendship.

Demetria’s single and video called “100” featuring Da Brat available on Itunes now. Went to #4 on iTunes and currently in the top 30's.Her newest Single “Trade It All” is now available on iTunes and is currently in the top 50 on the Urban AC Charts. The video for "Trade It All" will release March 2. 2015. The video has Cynthia Bailey, Claudia Jordan and Americas Next Top Model Winner Keith Carlos.

Jae Monique: Were you excited when you filmed the video.

Demetria: The video itself I was excited about. Cynthia, Claudia and I are genuinely friends. I wanted to show in the video the difference between what people see and what happens behind the camera.

Jae Monique: What inspired you to do music and how long have you been doing it?

Demetria: Whitey Houston inspired me to do music. Ever since the very first time I heard her sing “Greatest Love” and “I wanna dance with somebody”, I was inspired to, not to try to beat her, but be who I was musically. That’s why I do the tributes for her each year. Music has always been my fantasy.

The EP called “Officially Yours” will be released this spring. Two new movies are being released later this year: Let the Church Say Amen on BET, directed Regina King starring Demetria, Naturi Naughton, Lela Rochon & Hosea Chanchez and Sons to the Grave Directed by Mykelti Williamson starring Demetria, Trevor Jackson & Darrin Henson.

Jae Monique: What is “Let the Church Say Amen” about?

Demetria: It’s a faith based Project directed by Regina King. It has some really great actors in it. It’s about inner workings and imperfections in Christian families… they’re human. It’s about faith, love and how people grew in situations.

Jae Monique: Who do you play and what is your character’s personality?

Demetria: Since it is faith-based, I play the most Faithless.

Jae Monique: What is “Sons to the Grave” about?

Demetria: Inner cities. What going on the schools, in the neighborhood and the mentalities that we have there. The things we have to do to correct. I am really excited about that one.

Jae Monique: Who do you play and what is your character’s personality?

Demetria: I am the involved bystander. I wait to see the transformation from what could be to what happened.

Jae Monique: Do you have anything else you would like to add?

Demetria: I just shot pilot. It stars myself, Carl James, Toni Braxton, Vivica Fox. It’s an adult, sexy, grown comedy. I am very excited about it; I’m expecting it to be picked up in the next five months. The two singles “Trade it All” and “100”are available on iTunes, Amazon.
