Demetria McKinney: My Song Wasn't Stolen From Another Artist! - Exclusive

There have been reports going around that Real Housewives of Atlanta newbie Demetria McKinney allegedly stole one of her hit songs, “100”, from a gospel artist named Uncle Reece, but Demetria tells Wetpaint Entertainment in an exclusive statement that under no circumstances did she swipe another artists’ track.

“There has been an accusation made against me of allegedly stealing a track for my single ‘100’. Let me be clear that I didn't steal this or any other track. ,” the 35-year-old’s statement begins.

Still, Demetria’s track “100” does bear some striking resemblances to Uncle Reece’s tune, “I Can’t Help Myself”, though the RHoA star has an explanation for those similarities. “The track for "100" was legally purchased by my label from it's producer, we later learned that a similar track had been sold to another artist by the same producer,” Demetria continues in her exclusive statement. “This is something that I had no control over. The other artist happened to release his single a week before I released mine. I wish him the best of luck with his music and would thank everyone who has been part the success of ‘100’.”

If the producer of the track sold similar things to two artists as Demetria’s statement makes clear, then one can’t claim that she “stole” anything. In that case, since both parties paid for the similar material, no one is actually ripping anyone else off.

“100” is just one of a few songs Demetria has released in recent weeks in anticipation of the release of her Officially Yours EP, and despite the controversy we’re still eagerly awaiting more music from RHoA’s newest star. She’s got a killer voice, excellent stage presence, and a wonderful personality. A hoopla like this is just further proof that our girl has made it — otherwise people wouldn't be stirring up trouble for no reason!
