Executive Producer and Playwright; Angela Barrow-Dunlap
Co-Writers; Vanessa Lynn, Wanda Nero-Butler, Duane Davis
Church Girl, the inspirational musical stage play that will send audiences on a whirl wind of emotions. The main character, Emily Franklin goes from the church choir to the gritty Sapphire Strip Club where she spirals out of control. This entertaining and exciting production is based on actual life events. The realism of the acting and strong vocals in Church Girl is truly phenomenal.
Franklin is played by, singer, actress and model, Demetria Mckinney.
Mckinney is best known for her character, Janine Payne from Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne”. She says that while watching this play, “you will realize the power of choice.” The play portrays real issues that people can relate to. Mckinney who is a “deacons’ kid” in real life can relate to growing up in the church and has this in common with her character, Emily Franklin.
Additionally she has many different projects coming up in the near future. Mckinney plans to debut her CD this fall. Also, the brilliant singer and actress will portray Coretta Scott King singing opera, in the play “I Dream.” McKinney has also appeared in Tyler Perry’s stage plays, “Meet the Browns” and “Why did I get Married.”
