Demetria McKinney
Actress, Singer, Songwriter,Dancer, Choreographer
Demetria McKinney Initially, Demetria McKinney did not want to become an actress. Nor did the singer, songwriter, dancer and choreographer intend to become a household name playing a crack-addicted mother on “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.” But an episode earlier this year helped Demetria understand conclusively and without question, that she is living her purpose: “I was doing an AIDS awareness reception with the CETA Foundation about four or five months ago,” Demetria says. “And some lady came up to me. The week before she had been raped. Seeing me do what I’m doing and being willing to talk about some of things that I experienced in my life so that people can progress beyond whatever has happened to them in the past helped her. … That’s when I knew, ‘Hey, I actually have a platform where somebody can be helped.’ … Now I can’t see my life without [acting].”
