Demetria McKinney used To Sing For Candy

WASHINGTON (May 29, 2012) -- Fans know her mainly as an actress in some of Tyler Perry's productions, including the TV show "House of Payne," but Demetria McKinney says she has the soul of a singer, and says she's been singing for people since she was a kid.

She said when she was as young as four, performed "concerts" for family and friends, and she didn't work for free.

She told her "audience" to give her some candy, money or even pickles before she'd start belting out tunes.

McKinney grew up listening to such divas as Whitney Houston, and says even when she's in public she's liable to burst into song, if the mood strikes her.

McKinney is working on a debut album now.
